Annatto oily extract is obtained from the seed, with bixin being the main carotenoid extracted from this fruit. Bixin has antioxidant properties that protect cells from oxidative damage caused by free radicals and thus contributes to the protection of skin tissue. Carotenoids play an important role in preventing diseases associated with oxidative stress and also help slow down the aging process. Annatto Oil is also a natural colorant widely used in cosmetics, due to the low toxicity of this pigment and because it is a natural substitute for synthetic colors. It can be used in tanning lotions or oils, shampoos, conditioners, leave-in serums, anti-aging creams and lotions, and baby products.
